While Heinz was originally interested in Weight Watchers for its grocery store food business, the company later realized that the value was in the brand name itself.
Weight Watchers was popular in the 1970s. Its 10-year anniversary party drew more than 15,000 people to Madison Square Garden in New York City, including celebrities such as actor Bob Hope.
Artal sold its remaining stake in Weight Watchers in 2023.
