JRR Tolkien, author of 'Lord of the Rings,' and CS Lewis, author of 'The Chronicles of Narnia,' became close friends after meeting at Oxford and bonding over Norse mythology.

Additional insights we found via America Magazine

  1. The writers were colleagues at Oxford University and shared an appreciation for Norse mythology, which continues to inform the fantasy genre.

  2. They were also a part of the same informal literary group, the Inklings, where they’d discuss one another’s works-in-progress.

  3. Both men were Christians (Tolkien was Catholic, and Lewis Anglican), and their books have often been interpreted as spiritual allegories.
