Ingrid BergmanIngrid Bergman was a Swedish actress and director who was one of Hollywood's biggest stars in the 1940s and early '50s. Bergman became an American star with her leading role in 1942's "Casablanca." She followed that with Oscar-nominated performances in 1943's "For Whom the Bell Tolls," 1945's "The Bells of St. Mary's," 1948's "Joan of Arc," and won the Oscar for best actress for 1944's "Gaslight." In 1949, she began an affair with director Roberto Rossellini and, in 1950, gave birth to their son while still married to her first husband, leading to a major scandal in Hollywood's Golden Age. She spent much of the '50s outside the US and the American film world, though she continued to deliver highly acclaimed performances until her death in 1982. She is one of just 24 people who have earned the "Triple Crown of Acting" for winning an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, and a Tony Award.Explore Ingrid Bergman
