Additional insights we found via San Francisco Heritage

  1. Haight-Ashbury is a San Francisco neighborhood named after the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets and associated with the city's late-1960s counterculture.

  2. The Psychedelic Shop, a "metaphysical book and trinket emporium," was opened on Haight Street in 1966 by two brothers inspired by Timothy Leary, the Harvard professor who was a pioneer in the use of psychedelic drugs.

  3. Author Charles Perry said the store sold "everything an acidhead might be interested in."

  4. The Shop also offered The Oracle, which billed itself as the world's first "psychedelic newspaper."
