The history of Vannevar Bush, who influenced the creation of hyperlinks and the NSF

As director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development, Bush submitted a report outlining how to support basic research at American colleges and universities by establishing an independent funding agency, which laid the groundwork for the National Science Foundation. His idea for a Memex machine that connected microfilm content in "associative trails" of links would influence Douglas Engelbart's development of hypertext.
