Stem cell therapy has shown promise in treating spinal injuries in an early-stage clinical trial.

Findings
Additional insights we found via Mayo Clinic
The small, phase 1 clinical trial concluded that stem cells derived from patients' own fat tissue are safe and may improve sensation and bowel control.
Researchers have long hoped to use stem cells in regenerative medicine to help patients with spinal cord injuries restore both sensation and movement.
This trial followed a 2019 case report of one patient who had experienced a very significant recovery after undergoing the therapy. The man had been paralyzed from the neck down after an accident, but years later was able to stand and walk on his own.
