Blinken Meets Lavrov

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met briefly with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov yesterday on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit in India. It marked the first in-person encounter between the top diplomats from each country since Russia invaded Ukraine in February of last year. Neither side reported any productive outcome from the discussion.

Separately, Russia accused Ukrainian forces of staging a terror attack in two border-area villages that left at least two civilians dead. Ukrainian officials denied involvement, while a Russian antigovernment nationalist group operating out of Eastern Ukraine claimed credit for the shootings on their Telegram channel.

On the ground, reports suggest Russian forces may be close to capturing the city of Bakhmut after seven months of intense fighting. Analysts say while the eastern regional capital has some strategic significance, the battle for its control has become largely symbolic and may serve as a morale booster for Russia.

Details in Idaho Murder Arrest

Court documents released earlier this week show police seized knives and a handgun during a search of the Idaho murder suspect’s parents’ home in Pennsylvania. Other items taken include gloves, black face masks, dark clothing, laptops, shoes, an underlined criminology book, and more.

Bryan Kohberger, a criminology doctoral student at Washington State University, is accused of stabbing four University of Idaho students to death Nov. 13 and is facing four counts of first-degree murder and a felony burglary charge (see previous write-up). Also seized was a white 2015 Hyundai Elantra seen in surveillance footage near the crime scene. Officials took various parts, fibers, and swabs from the vehicle. See the documents here.

The court order prohibits officials from commenting beyond referencing the public records. A preliminary probable cause hearing is scheduled to begin June 26.

Great Pyramid Discovery

Archaeologists revealed the existence of a previously unknown, 30-foot-long chamber inside the Great Pyramid of Giza yesterday. Experts framed the find, which sits above the main entrance but is inaccessible from the outside, as one of the most exciting discoveries made in Egypt's preeminent pyramid in recent years.

While the original purpose of the tunnel-like space is yet to be determined, officials noted the presence of limestone blocks at one end, signaling the possibility of further unexplored chambers. The pyramid itself was constructed more than 4,500 years ago as a tomb for the pharaoh Khufu (see timeline), now dominating the nearby city's skyline. See a scientific overview of the findings here, and preliminary views shared during an official press conference here.

The structure is considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world–see the other six here.

Why Kids Need Better Vitamins

Most off-the-shelf children's vitamins have a huge problem: They're candy masquerading as vitamins. Full of sugar, unhealthy chemicals, and gummy junk, and based on national guidelines last updated in the 1980s.

Enter Hiya—the pediatrician-approved superpowered chewable vitamin created by two dads tired of children’s vitamins causing more problems than they solve. Hiya is made from a blend of 12 farm-fresh fruits and vegetables and supercharged with 15 essential vitamins and minerals to support a healthy immune system, energy levels, brain function, mood, teeth, bones, and more. It’s non-GMO, vegan, dairy-free, allergy-free, gelatin-free, nut-free, tasty (even for picky eaters!), and manufactured in the USA.

Ditch the Sugar Gummies

Did you know the average kid’s vitamin is basically candy in disguise? Hiya was created by two dads out of frustration that typical gummy vitamins for kids just aren't as healthy as you might think—instead, they're filled with added sugar, unhealthy dyes, hard-to-pronounce chemicals, and sticky junk awful for kid's teeth.

Hiya is the daily chewable made with a blend of 12 organic fruits and veggies and supercharged with 15 essential vitamins and minerals, including zinc, vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin B12, and 11 more. And while other vitamins include up to five grams of added sugar, Hiya is naturally sweetened with zero added sugar, yet even picky eaters love the taste.
