Spain topped Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final yesterday, winning the global tournament for the second time and the first since 2010. The win denied Argentina back-to-back titles, a feat that hasn’t happened since Brazil in 1958-62.
The Spaniards frustrated star Lionel Messi for most of the match, winning time of possession 65%-35% and forcing five yellow and one red card. Argentina had just two shots—neither of which was on goal—while Spain took 20 shots and put 12 on goal. Despite the dominance, Argentina forced Spain into extra time, with the winning shot coming at minute 106. Watch the goal and match highlights here.
Separately, England topped France in Saturday's high-scoring third-place match, 6-4. French star Kylian Mbappé became the all-time World Cup top scorer (22 goals across three tournaments) at just 27 years old.

US Service Members Killed |
Three US service members were killed in Iranian strikes since Friday—two in a strike Friday in Jordan and a third in northern Iraq Saturday. One service member based in Jordan is still missing as of this writing (see alleged video of the strike).
The attacks raised the US death toll to at least 17 service members since the war began in February, with more than 430 wounded. The Iranian death toll is believed to exceed 3,600, with at least 50 people reported killed in strikes over the past several weeks. The US confirmed it is sending more fighter jets to the Middle East. The buildup comes after President Donald Trump last week warned that he intended to strike Iranian infrastructure targets in the coming days, including bridges and power plants.
Some oil-rich Gulf nations have restricted US access to their airspace in recent months. Jordan, which relies heavily on US foreign aid, has allowed the US military to operate freely and has recently seen an uptick in Iranian strikes. |

Influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested Saturday in Miami as British authorities announced 38 new charges and efforts to extradite them.
The alleged crimes date from 2010 to 2017 and cover rape and sex trafficking charges, as well as crimes related to child sexual abuse images. The UK says four victims are tied to the latest allegations, separate from 21 charges filed against the brothers last year for crimes linked to three other unnamed victims (see previous write-up). The dual US-British citizens separately face sexual exploitation charges in Romania, where they lived from 2016 to 2025, though that case is stalled.
