Maryland Shooting.
At least five were killed and three injured when a gunman opened fire in the newsroom of the Annapolis-based Capital Gazette. One employee of the paper - a daily established in 1884 with a readership of about 30,000 - live-tweeted an alert from inside the building during the attack. Authorities took the suspect alive, reportedly 38-year-old Jarrod Ramos of Laurel, MD. Ramos had a long-standing beef with the Capital stemming from a 2011 defamation suit that Ramos brought against the paper and subsequently lost - a column had covered his guilty plea in a criminal harassment case. Since then, a Twitter account appearing to be run by Ramos conducted a long-running personal vendetta against both the paper and the judge who dismissed his defamation case.
Trump Sets Meeting with Putin.
President Trump will hold a high-level summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 16th in Helsinki, Finland, according to reports yesterday. Finland has long prided itself on maintaining a neutral stance in the majority of global affairs - key to the decision to host the summit in the Scandinavian country. The meeting follows a similar engagement with North Korean lead Kim Jong Un earlier this month. While the summit is tentatively focused on international security, particularly the conflict in Syria, the meeting comes against the backdrop of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and anticipation of continued efforts in the upcoming 2018 midterms. News of the summit came on the same day as Putin described new Russian nuclear weapon technologies as being years ahead of foreign competitors while speaking to military graduates.

Amazon Shakes Up Pharmacy Industry.
In what may herald a major disruption of the pharmacy industry, Amazon announced it would buy online pharmacy company PillPack. The deal, which cost a reported $1B, is the online retail giant's first foray into the $560B prescription drug business. The move would allow the company to leverage its massive e-commerce and logistics infrastructure, while taking advantage of the fact that PillPack is already licensed to sell drugs in 49 states. CVS, Walgreens, and RiteAid were down nearly 10 percent on news of the acquisition, losing a combined $11B in market capitalization. On the same day, Amazon announced it would begin working with contractors and startups for delivery of goods, shifting away from traditional delivery services like UPS and FedEx, who were also down about 1-2% on the news.
Americans fill out more than 4 billion prescriptions each year.
