  1. The virus is closely related to the virus which causes smallpox, a disease that's been eradicated in the US, with no cases since 1977.

  2. People with mpox often get a rash that can initially look like pimples or blisters, and may have other symptoms like fever, chills, and swollen lymph nodes.
