Tornadoes can cause significant air pollution and diminish air quality

Asbestos, a hazardous material that can cause lung cancer, is commonly found in buildings constructed before 1980. Individuals, particularly those with asthma or other chronic lung diseases, are encouraged to wear masks after a tornado.
