Nine Killed in Frankfurt Shooting
At least nine people are dead after a gunman went on a shooting spree in a suburb of Frankfurt, Germany overnight. According to reports, the 43-year-old shooter killed three people after opening fire in a hookah bar in the town of Hanau before driving over a mile away to another hookah bar, where he killed five others. Several people were also said to be injured at both locations. The shooter then drove to his home where police believe he killed his mother before turning the gun on himself. Police have not officially confirmed a motive however reports suggest the gunman left behind what was described as a far-right manifesto and was said to have operated an anti-immigrant website. The attack is being treated as an act of domestic terrorism.
'The Jinx' Trial
Jury selection began yesterday in the long-awaited murder trial of eccentric real estate heir Robert Durst, who is charged with the killing of friend Susan Berman two decades ago. Prosecutors allege Durst killed Berman to conceal his involvement in the 1982 disappearance of his wife Kathleen. The details of the case are incredibly strange; Durst is also suspected of killing his friend Morris Black to conceal his identity while living in Galveston, Texas posing as a mute female botanist. Durst burst back into the public consciousness following the 2015 HBO documentary "The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst." Durst was taken into custody immediately after the final episode aired, which contained footage of Durst appearing to admit to the murders while speaking to himself in a bathroom after forgetting to turn off his microphone. Durst also admitted to writing an incriminating note that tipped off police to Berman's killing.

China Revokes Press Credentials
Chinese officials revoked the press credentials and expelled three Wall Street Journal reporters yesterday over a Feb. 3 op-ed that slammed the country's response to the coronavirus epidemic as secretive while taking a broad swipe at the integrity of Chinese financial markets. The move was seen as retaliatory - the reporters in question were not involved in the piece ($$, WSJ) - with editors declining China's demand for a public apology. The timing coincidentally comes one day after the US State Department restricted the ability of five Chinese state media companies to operate in the US over propaganda concerns. Meanwhile, the global death toll from the virus passed 2,000 with more than 75,000 cases, while preliminary signs suggest the outbreak may be peaking and passengers on a Japanese cruise ship were allowed to disembark after a 14-day quarantine.

The outbreak has sparked paranoia worldwide, as captured by these two fliers who boarded their plane with some interesting protection measures.
