Brexit Deal Delayed (Again)
In a rare Saturday session British lawmakers stymied a vote on Prime Minister Boris Johnson's newly negotiated plan to leave the European Union, likely forcing Johnson to request an extension from the EU ahead of an Oct. 31 deadline. Parliament didn't reject the deal outright, opting to require a law first be passed forcing its implementation should the package win approval. The amendment is somewhat of a procedural loophole and its champion, former Johnson ally Oliver Letwin, said he supports the new deal but wants to prevent the deal from being sabotaged after its passage. The move was partly inspired by rumors that hard-line Brexit supporters would attempt to delay implementation and force a no-deal exit from the EU. Saturday's outcome once again delays a conclusion to the three-year drama. As required by law, Johnson's government formally requested an extension from the EU, albeit very grudgingly

Meanwhile, more than 100,000 protesters marched (see photos) in London to call for a second national referendum on the issue.
"Like a Bad Netflix Show"
Mexican forces attempting to arrest the son of notorious drug kingpin El Chapo were defeated by armed henchmen late last week in a chaotic scene that held the city of Culiacán under siege for over eight hours. According to reports, at least 30 government officers helped take Ovidio Guzmán López into custody to extradite him to the US, but encountered an overwhelming show of force from the Sinaloa Cartel (see 101) as they tried to exit the neighborhood. Guzmán was handed over after several police were taken hostage - at least eight people were killed and 20 wounded in the fighting. Analysts said the incident reflects the cartel's continued strength, despite El Chapo currently residing in a US supermax prison. It was a bloody week in Mexico's fight against drug crime, with 27 civilians and officers killed in two separate incidents.

Astros vs. Nationals
The Houston Astros and Washington Nationals will face off in baseball's 2019 World Series after the Astros downed the New York Yankees in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday. Houston closed the series out in dramatic fashion, with All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve knocking a two-run, walk-off home run to break a tied game in the bottom of the ninth inning (watch here). The championship offers two contrasting franchises: Houston won a league-leading 107 games this year while the Nationals entered the playoffs via a wild card game. Houston returns to the World Series for the second time in three years, having won the title in 2017, while the Nationals will play in their first World Series since moving to Washington, DC in 2005. However both teams have relied on talented starting pitching rotations through the playoffs, and Washington is coming off a sweep of St. Louis. Game 1 is on Tuesday (8pm ET, FOX).
